Note taking: I record minimal notes by hand after each session and store these confidentially in accordance with GDPR regulations. These will not be disclosed to any external party without your consent and without a clear, agreed purpose, except in the rare case that they could be subject to a court order. Notes are stored separately from your full name and contact details.
Confidentiality and safeguarding: Your sessions are fully confidential in most cases. If I have serious safeguarding concerns and deem that there is immediate risk to your life or that of someone else, I will endeavour to discuss with you how to involve relevant external parties. I am legally obliged to report certain criminal concerns such as terrorism, drug trafficking and money laundering to the police. It is also my ethical duty to report serious concerns regarding the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
Clinical supervision: this is an ethical responsibility for all therapists, in order to support safe and effective practice. I do share details of our work together with my clinical supervisor. However, my supervisor will never be informed of your full name, address or other identifying details.
AI use: I do not use AI to record or take notes of our sessions. I may use AI for research purposes in order to find up-to-date information and evidence to support my therapeutic practice. However I will not utilise client information or details in these searches.
Complaints: If you wish to make a complaint about how I have handled your information, or any other aspect of our work, I encourage you raise this with me directly in the first instance. You may, if you wish, detail this in an email. I will meet you within a maximum 30 days to try to resolve and correct the matter. If after that you wish to escalate your complaint, you may do so via the BACP complaints procedure here.
